Register for Classes

GUILD MEMBERS ONLY

To register for a session, click the right-hand column below. If you have a problem with that, send an email to Mentoring Chairman, Bill Keener, at wgkwood@aol.com, or call Bill at 864-967-9669.

Type your name and phone number in the email that is generated when you click on "click to register" below, and, in the case of multiple classes being offered, specify which classes you want. Sessions are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. All classes are at the Guild Education Center unless otherwise specified. Since classes may overlap, please check day and time to insure that you don't sign-up for two classes that meet at the same time.

Register early to ensure your participation in the class.

Beginners

Learn to turn bowls, spindles, and a lidded box.

(5 separate classes. Each class covers the same material so chose the class that best works with your schedule.)

Bandsaw

Beginners Level.  
Safe usage of all bandsaws in the shop.

Bandsaw Boxes
($20 material fee)
Prerequisite: basic bandsaw class or other bandsaw experience. How to cut various boxes using the bandsaw. (2 separate classes)

Hand Tool Sharpening How to sharpen a chisel or plane blade.
Each class member will need to bring a tool to sharpen and if available a sharpening stone and sharpening jig. (2 separate classes)

Table Saw Training

Use of both the Powermatic and the new Grizzly
table saw at the shop. Covers safety and operation, including use of jigs and other related items.
(2 separate classes)

($15 material fee)
Beginner - basic carving techniques. Carving tools will be provided. Tues, Feb 7, 6-9pm 8 Full
Router Table Operation of the router tables in the shop, set-up and use of the router and router bits. Thurs,  Jan 19,  6-9pm 8 Full

Google Sketchup New Course!
Basics of using Google SketchUp. Screen layout, tool bar setup, and using the program to print out usable drawings. Bring your laptop. You will receive additional information prior to the class.

Hand Tool Joinery
($20 material fee)
Prerequisite: participate in a tool sharpening class prior to starting this class. Cutting dovetails, mortise & tenons, flattening and straighting lumber using only hand tools. Tuesday and Friday mornings for three consecutive weeks.

Advanced Turning Demonstration
($20 fee)

Charlie Stephan will do an advanced turning demonstration at the shop on Saturday Feb 11 starting at 9:30 am and continuing till about 3:00pm. The program will includes:

  • Deep hollowing techniques and tools
  • Natural edge bowl turning techniques
  • Surface texturing and carving on pieces
  • Use of a bowl saver and coring systems
  • Offset or excentric turnings
  • Other subjects as time allows.

As this is an advanced turning demonstration some turning experience will help you understand the the procedures and methods be presented. However, we are opening this demonstration to all Guild members. The program will be presented in the auditorium and will be done with audio/visual set-up.
